1st Year Scout Skills Follow-up

Posted on Apr 20 2015 - 8:26pm

This weekend's 1st Year Skills campout was a great success.  Thanks to Nikhil for organizing the weekend and all the parents that helped out.  We have an enthusiastic group of 1st year Scouts that now have a great jump on their basic skills.  A couple of post trip items:

Gear

      • Tents should be opened up to air out immediately after the campout.  If time doesn't allow to do so the same day, the tent can be cleaned with water and a sponge later.  Click here for cleaning instructions.  Scouts need to check the tent in with the Quartermaster (please do not just leave at a meeting).
      • Check the gear your Scout brough home for items that may not be yours; you can return at the meeting.  Many Scouts report missing gear.  Please put your name on everything you bring to camp.
      • Scouts that purchased patrol food, please turn in your receipts to the front desk. For future consideration, patrols bought too much food.  to avoid waste or exceed the patrol's budget, coach your Scout on buying only the quantities required on their Grubmaster sheet.

Advancement

      • Complete First Class requirement 4a at home => Scouts need to read the pages in their handbook for this requirement and then tell how this weekend's patrol menu includes the foods from the MyPlate food guide.  On Tuesday, Nikhil or a Scoutmaster can sign off on this requirement.
      • Several Scouts completed enough requirements to advance in rank.  These Scouts should request an Advancement form from the Front Desk and proceed with asking the Scoutmaster for a Scoutmaster Conference and then a Board of Review.
      • All Scouts should have earned Scout Rank by now.  If you have not, please see a Scoutmaster on Tuesday.  The requirements can be found in the Joining section of the Handbook.

Photos

      • Photos - Smugmug page on our website should have a link created by Wednesday for you to upload or view pics from this weekend's action.
